A quick way to get more efficient during the day

Are you juggling many different tasks at the moment and do you feel like spending most of your time in a ‘reactive mode’?

You probably feel tired at the end of the day and aren’t really satisfied about the work you’ve produced.

Can you relate?

Well here is a simple time management tip which will make you more efficient during the day:
Time blocking.

Get more done with time blocking

This means you divide your work day into blocks of time. Each block is dedicated to accomplishing a group of tasks and only those specific tasks.

Types of blocks

You could think about time blocks for:

  • E-mails
  • Creating content
  • Preparing meetings
  • Admin work
  • Calls

I also recommend to plan a block at the end of the morning and the end of the afternoon for unforeseen tasks. This prevents you from working (too) much in the evening and you have time to relax.

You own your calendar

And don’t forget, you’re the owner of your calendar. So also think about which blocks in your calendar are open for colleagues to plan meetings and when you would like to go outside for your lunch break.

For the blocks that have priority, I can highly recommend working with the 25 minutes ‘Pomodoros’. It will help you to work super concentrated on one task. Read more about it here.

More focus

What I love about the time blocking technique is that it’s clear for the whole day what to focus on and I’m not constantly switching between tasks. I work more focussed and get more done in less time.

Definitely give it a try.
Start with planning your day ahead with these blocks and review it at the end. What worked well and what didn’t? What do you need to adjust for tomorrow?

I would love to hear back from you. What’s the difference you notice?

Best wishes,
Eefke
